Supporting Some of the Most Exceptional Carbon Offset Projects on the Planet
Founded in 2003, Carbonfund.org Foundation is a leading non-profit carbon offset provider making it easy and affordable for both individuals and organizations to mitigate their climate impacts by supporting some of the most significant carbon offset projects on the planet with significant community benefits. Carbonfund.org most exceptional carbon projects include projects located on the African continent including clean cookstove projects in Nairobi and clean water projects in Kenya. Our most exceptional carbon offset projects also include avoided deforestation projects in the Amazonian Basin of Brazil that protect over 750,000 acres of pristine rain forest.
These most exceptional international carbon offset projects provide significant community benefits including build schools, health clinics, and even providing land tenure to local rural forest communities. Carbonfund.org Foundation highest quality international carbon offset projects are always verified to the highest third- party certification standards on the planet such as the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Standard (CCB) and provide significant community benefits. Experts agree we need a major reduction in CO2 over the next fifty years. With this in mind, we need to support the highest quality international carbon offset projects while also providing local communities with major community benefits.
The Purus Project
The Purus Project is one of our highest quality forest carbon offset projects located in the Amazonian Basin of Brazil. The Purus Project is protecting approximately 86,000 acres (34,702 hectares) of tropical rain forest containing some of the highest levels of biodiversity on the planet. Purus is a payment for ecosystem services forest conservation project, otherwise known as Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+). The ultimate project activities are to undertake a forest carbon inventory, model regional deforestation, and land use patterns, and mitigate deforestation pressures by utilizing payments for the Project’s ecosystem services.
Purus Project is considered one of the highest quality forest carbon offset projects on the planet. The project mitigates the release of nearly 900,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. This is equivalent to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from over 2 billion miles driven by the average passenger vehicle or the carbon sequestration of over 14 million tree seedlings grown for ten years.
