Supporting Some of the Highest Impact Carbon Offset Projects on the Planet

Founded in 2003, Carbonfund.org Foundation is a leading non-profit carbon offset provider making it easy and affordable for both individuals and organizations to mitigate their climate impacts by supporting some of the highest quality carbon offset projects on the planet.  Carbonfund.org Foundation is a leader in forest carbon offset project development. These highest quality forest carbon offset projects are located in the Amazonian Basin of Acre, Brazil. These avoided deforestation projects protect approximately 750,000 acres of pristine rain forest containing some of the highest levels of biodiversity on the planet. These projects also provide significant benefits to rural forest communities including the development of schools, health clinics, and educational programs for local forest communities. Carbonfund.org Foundation’s highest quality forest carbon offset projects are always verified by a third party to the highest certification standards on the planet.  These carbon offset projects in the Amazonian Basin of Acre, Brazil are verified to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community, and Biodiversity (CCB) Standard.

The Purus Project

The Purus Project is one of our highest quality forest carbon offset projects located in the Amazonian Basin of Brazil. The Purus Project is protecting approximately 86,000 acres (34,702 hectares) of tropical rain forest containing some of the highest levels of biodiversity on the planet.  Purus is a payment for ecosystem services forest conservation project, otherwise known as Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+).   The ultimate project activities are to undertake a forest carbon inventory, model regional deforestation, and land use patterns, and mitigate deforestation pressures by utilizing payments for the Project’s ecosystem services.

Purus Project is considered one of the highest quality forest carbon offset projects on the planet. The project mitigates the release of nearly 900,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. This is equivalent to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from over 2 billion miles driven by the average passenger vehicle or the carbon sequestration of over 14 million tree seedlings grown for ten years.
