Carbonfund Partnership
As an online shopping platform, EarthHero is able to bring sustainable products to customers that may not have access to them, making eco-friendly living more accessible and affordable. But, product shipping has an impact on the environment through the generation of carbon emissions. By partnering with Carbonfund to support reforestation programs, EarthHero is able to offset the emissions created by day-to-day operations and shipping. Although EarthHero is already a carbon neutral company through Carbonfund.org, they are also working towards the Climate Neutral Certification.
Footprint
As EarthHero works to inspire their community to be mindful with their choices, they have the same goals in their office. EarthHero works hard to make their office and warehouse zero waste – recycling, composting, and using reusables whenever possible. By the end of 2021, EarthHero will have a 100% solar powered office and warehouse. They sweat the small stuff, because they know the small stuff adds up.
EarthHero products are shipped plastic-free with post-consumer recycled content boxes and mailers to ensure all shipping packaging is recyclable. Even the paper inserts that come in an EarthHero box are made from post-consumer recycled paper.
Sourcing Methodology
EarthHero currently has 175+ brands, and that number grows every week. But how do they select what brands and products will be part of the EarthHero community? Through their 5-step sourcing methodology. EarthHero wants to ensure that the products on their site come with all of the information you need to make an informed purchase. When analyzing a brand or product, EarthHero starts by looking at the materials and ingredients it is made out of. Is it certified organic? Are the materials recyclable? Next, they look at how the company manufactures that product – and most importantly, how the people who are part of that process are treated. From there, they look at if the company has a charitable element. Are they part of 1% for the Planet? Do they plant a tree for every purchase? They move on from there to packaging, ensuring that the product itself is packaged mindfully. Last but not least, EarthHero analyzes whether the product will help you live your most sustainable lifestyle.
Through this methodology, EarthHero is able to ensure that the brands and products on their site are best-in-class when it comes to sustainability and impact – so you can shop with your values, worry-free.
Certifications + Partners
EarthHero works with some seriously amazing companies. They walk the walk, and have various third-party certifications and partnerships that give back to the planet.
EarthHero is a proud B Corp, ensuring they have met the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. Being a B Corp allows EarthHero to join a network of amazing companies using business as a force for good. EarthHero is constantly working to increase their Impact Assessment Score and find ways to connect and collaborate with other B Corp companies.
Charitable giving is another cause EarthHero is dedicated to – as a 1% for the Planet member, they donate 1% of their sales annually to various sustainability initiatives, non-profits, and organizations working hard to make the world a better, more sustainable, place. And as EarthHero grows, so does their impact through 1%.
Each year, EarthHero selects several non-profits to partner with on dedicated campaigns. Over the holidays in 2020, they worked with Eden Reforestation Project to plant 5 trees for every order placed. With the support of their community, they were able to plant 65,000 trees by the end of the campaign! This Earth Day 2021, they teamed up with Plastic Oceans to protect 60 sq. ft of turtle habitat for every order placed in the month of April and were able to protect 1.7 million sq. ft of habitat.
