Flexport Partners with Carbonfund.org Foundation on Carbon Neutral Shipping Opportunities for Customers
Tuesday, 18 April 2017
Flexport is a freight forwarding and customs brokerage company based in San Francisco, California. Flexport is the first international freight forwarder and customs brokerage built around an online dashboard. Shipping something from Shenzhen to Cincinnati or Rotterdam to LA requires complex coordination. Currently that’s done by telephones, spreadsheets, and fax machines. Flexport provides a web-based app that offers real-time visibility for these shipments. Flexport offers services in air freight, ocean freight, trucking and delivery, warehouse & fulfillment, customs clearances, and cargo insurance.
According to the Economist Magazine, “15 of the biggest ships emit more oxides of nitrogen and sulfur – gases much worse for global warming than carbon dioxide – than all the world’s cars put together.”
Flexport has partnered with Carbonfund.org Foundation to provide an easy and affordable way for their customers to mitigate freight shipping greenhouse gas emissions by providing the opportunity for carbon neutral shipping. Any customer that chooses to offset 100% shipping emissions can claim Carbonfree® Shipping. Flexport customers can offset these emissions via world class carbon offset projects that fund renewable energy, energy efficiency, and avoid deforestation. As with all projects supported by Carbonfund.org, these projects are independently verified to the highest standards of environmental protection and community enhancement.
“We are very excited about our partnership with Flexport offering their clients the opportunity to offset their freight shipping emissions,” said Eric Carlson, President of Carbonfund.org Foundation, “Flexport is working to make a significant impact on mitigating global warming by providing opportunities to support world-class carbon offset projects.”
One of the projects that Flexport customers can support is the Envira Amazonia Project located in northwestern Brazil. The venture will conserve over 494,000 acres of tropical rainforests (home to howler monkeys, freshwater dolphins, and many endangered species), while providing the rural community there with a new school, a new health clinic, and sustainable economic opportunities. Other offsetting opportunities for Flexport customers include our top quality domestic landfill gas to energy projects which capture methane and produce clean electricity for local communities. The destruction of methane from such projects is important in the fight against global climate change because methane is approximately 23 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
“We developed a carbon calculator to automatically measure the carbon footprint of all the freight shipped by our customers. Thanks to our new partnership with Carbonfund.org Foundation, businesses shipping with Flexport can now automatically buy carbon offsets to mitigate the environmental impact of their shipping” said Ryan Petersen, CEO of Flexport
Carbonfund.org Foundation is very excited about this innovative partnership with Flexport and welcomes the Flexport team and their customers to our foundation’s world class climate change mitigation projects and carbon offset programs.
