My Fiancée Isabel and I were fortunate enough to win the “Earth Day – May Getaway Caribbean Vacation Sweepstakes” sponsored by Carbonfund.org Foundation. It was as if Christmas had come early for us at the most opportune time. You usually don’t bank on winning anything, let alone a vacation to the Caribbean. As you can imagine, when Linda from Carbonfund.org contacted us, we were a bit skeptical to say the least. After speaking to Linda and ensuring that we were legitimately the Grand Prize Winners of this magnificent sweepstakes, it finally dawned on us:
WE WERE GOING ON AN ALL-PAID VACATION TO THE CARIBBEAN!
It was going to be our first vacation of the year, so you can image our excitement. Nevertheless, having a choice to go ANYWHERE in the Caribbean made it a difficult, but great problem to have. After much research and conversing, we decided on the Norwegian Getaway Cruise through JetBlue Getaways, leaving from Miami, FL in early October.
- Day 1 – Miami departure
- Day 2 – At sea
- Day 3 – Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras
- Day 4 – Belize City, Belize
- Day 5 – Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
- Day 6 – Cozumel, Mexico
- Day 7 – At sea
- Day 8 – Return to Miami
We decided to fly into Miami the weekend before our cruise, since we love to visit Miami. While there, we got to enjoy the beach and the exquisite Miami cuisine. The first day, we boarded the ship, which we must admit was BEAUTIFUL. Once onboard and settled, we indulged in a late lunch and set sail.
We spent the second day at sea, so we used that time to enjoy the pool and other amenities on the large ship.
On day three, we arrived at Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras where we decided to take the Maya Key Private Island Retreat excursion.
We took a short boat ride to an 11-acre private island where we relaxed on the private beach, explored life size replicas of the Copan Mayan Ruins, and took an exotic wildlife animal encounter.
Our last day of vacation, knowing we had to fly back to reality, brought a bittersweet moment. This was definitely an experience to remember forever and we thank our friends over at Carbonfund.org for this amazing opportunity — we had a blast!
