DuCard Vineyards Expands Environmental Stewardship through Carbonfree® Partnership Program

Thursday, 26 May 2016

As a business based in nature, DuCard Vineyards, a boutique winery in a magnificent mountainside setting bordering the Shenandoah National Park, just north of Charlottesville, Virginia, has always maintained a strong commitment to environmentally sustainable practices.

DuCard has been named Virginia’s Greenest Winery for sustainability and environmentally conscious principles and practices, in the vineyard, winery and tasting room.  DuCard was the first Virginia winery with solar power, and they practice sustainable wine growing, utilize lightweight bottles for lower carbon footprint, use reclaimed lumber in facilities construction and partner solely with local producers for foods in the winery’s tasting room.  DuCard also recently became only the second winery in the state to offer electric car recharging, free to customers visiting the tasting room, through a partnership with Tesla Motors.

Now, DuCard Vineyards has expanded their environmental responsibility by joining the Carbonfree® Business Partnership program and neutralizing almost 80,000 pounds of greenhouse gases by supporting Carbonfund.org’s clean energy and carbon emissions reduction projects.

“Given our strong environmental stewardship, partnering with Carbonfund.org was a natural for us,” explains Scott Elliff, President and Founder of DuCard Vineyards.  “We are happy to offset our carbon footprint and they made it easy.  And we are comfortable knowing that Carbonfund.org is pursuing desirable projects to help in a wide range of industries and situations.”

DuCard Vineyards’ limited production wines are available only at the winery’s tasting room and at selected local restaurants; they are not available in any retail stores.  They welcome visitors to the winery year-round, with a wide range of fun events on weekends, and with expanded visitation during the fall harvest and foliage season.  Group tours and tastings can be arranged by advance appointment.
