Carbonfund.org Reaches Out to College & University Campuses
Building on the partnerships we have with colleges and universities, Carbonfund.org is conducting an outreach effort to colleges and universities about their carbon footprint and value of partnering with Carbonfund.org on their offsetting. We’re also interested in working with colleges and universities that can help us convey our message of ending global warming and the importance of reducing one’s carbon footprint to their campus communities.
Schools tend to have a large footprint as facilities tend to be larger and some more antiquated, with fewer improvements and renovations happening on a regular basis than some office spaces. Students and faculty commuting on a daily basis adds another element to the carbon footprint. With all of the special events, conferences, and trips that are taken each year the footprint can be substantial.
Over 600 colleges and universities signed on to the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment (PCC). This pledge lays out the groundwork for campuses across the country to swiftly implement a climate neutral plan. Within one year of signing the PCC campuses are to complete a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory, to be repeated every other year. Within two years, a target date for achieving climate neutrality is set and actionable initiatives are put into place.
Carbonfund.org can provide these schools the ability to calculate and assess their carbon footprint, find ways to reduce that footprint, and offset it with high-quality, verified offsets. We also have the experience, as the country’s leading nonprofit carbon offset and climate solutions organization, to work with campuses on educating and communicating with their campus communities, including students, parents and faculty on climate change and the value of reducing and offsetting carbon footprints.
