Management Consultancy
Description
Bass & Company was founded 1998 in order to meet the needs of energy company executives who were in need of experienced guidance and practical business solutions. We are a specialty management-consulting firm that provides a complete line of operationally focused services in the electric, gas, and water utilities industries. Bass fills an energy industry void where strategic partners abound, but operational / tactical support is only an afterthought. While a growing number of today’s consulting firms sell large projects staffed with young inexperienced consultants who are trained on the job, the principals of Bass & Company believe there is a growing need for seasoned consulting professionals with real-world experience who can deliver real business value on day one.
Bass & Company consultants are recruited based on their time-proven experience and exceptional performance in the consulting, utility, or other related industries. All of our principals and nearly all our staff have previously attained senior or executive level positions in their respective industries, and have a minimum of 15 years professional experience. By deploying an approach based on the right blend of business and technical skills to create the most efficient service delivery model in the industry, we have a demonstrated track record of solving our clients’ most complex business problems quickly, pragmatically, and cost-effectively. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and working all across the globe, Bass & Company places no restrictions on where consultants must reside. This near-virtual service delivery model enables us to maintain one of the most cost-effective and non-restrictive operations in the industry, thus providing us the resources and lifestyle opportunities to be able to attract and retain the best talent in the industry—and as result, the ability to respond to the needs of our clients more quickly and effectively than our competitors.
Commitment
Bass & Company takes minimizing our daily impact to the environment very seriously. Our firm has a position we call Chief Environmental Officer (CEO jokingly). The objective of this role is to seek out ways we as a firm can minimize waste, maximize our % of reusable and renewable resources used, and reduce our footprint on the earth daily. Some of the things we are actively implementing are: a paperless office and paperless reporting, two-sided printing when printing is necessary, recycling and using recycled products, non-disposable items where possible (water bottles, coffee cups), use of hybrids or fuel efficient vehicles when renting, use of public transportation (e.g. BART) whenever possible, re-using towels in hotels, avoidance of socially irresponsible food chains (pesticides, non-biodegradable packaging), and retrofit of all incandescent lighting to fluorescent lighting in our office space. In addition, we have an Energy Efficiency practice area dedicated to helping our utility clients help their customers become more environmentally conscious.
Most importantly, Bass & Company is striving to be a zero-carbon footprint organization. We recognize that our consultants utilize a lot of air travel, and it is nearly impossible to offset our entire carbon footprint by conserving energy and utilizing energy efficient equipment, and that to truly balance our carbon footprint, it is necessary to purchase what is generally known as carbon offsets. This is especially true for organizations who utilize air travel on a regular basis. By purchasing carbon offsets, we are supporting the development of clean energy projects. These projects include the production of renewable energy from sources such as wind, biomass and solar. Renewable energy adds significantly less carbon dioxide emissions than non-renewable resources. Clean energy projects also include certain industrial, commercial, transportation and residential efficiency efforts where energy consumption is reduced or less carbon dioxide is emitted by modifying industrial process, along with carbon sequestration projects that capture carbon dioxide emissions preventing them from reaching the atmosphere. We believe that the purchase of clean energy credits is the only true way to offset our carbon footprint and truly minimize our environmental impact.
Given our firm’s current size and anticipating our rate of growth, for 2009 we have purchased over four hundred and seventeen tons (835,000lbs) of carbon dioxide offsets—enough to offset the environmental impact of two million commercial airline miles flown. As a leader in energy efficiency and conservation, Bass & Company believes that it is our obligation to practice what we preach, and it is our responsibility to help our clients be environmentally responsible.
