With the success of COP21 in Paris last December, and the record number of companies and organizations around the world making significant pledges to reduce their carbon emissions, Carbonfund.org is thrilled to celebrate thirty-five of its business partners that have maintained carbon emissions reduction and mitigation programs continuously for the past ten years.

These organizations have shown long-term and consistent leadership in maintaining environmentally responsible business operations.  Programs vary from tree-planting campaigns to recognize customers or employees and to celebrate Earth Day, to product shipping or travel and event-related emissions offsets, to full annual operational carbon neutrality.

Our tenth anniversary partners have supported innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, clean air technology and critical forest preservation projects around the world.

Together, these thirty-five organizations have mitigated the negative impact of an astonishing 375 million pounds of greenhouse gases - equivalent to removing 35,810 passenger cars from the roads for a year!  In addition, they’ve planted 10,400 trees in reforestation and tree-planting initiatives around the world, to celebrate Earth Days, customers or employees.

“It is both humbling and heartening to see this extensive list of organizations and businesses, of all sizes and in all industries, that have maintained a steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility and supporting the projects and the mission of Carbonfund.org,” exclaimed President and Co-Founder Eric Carlson.  “With this type of leadership and dedication, these organizations continue to set the standard for others to follow.  I am so honored to be able to recognize these long-term partner organizations.”

Each of these business partners and organizations is receiving a special Carbonfree® Partner – 10 Years logo, and Carbonfund.org will be planting 100 trees in honor of each tenth anniversary partner to thank them for their long-term partnership.

WONDERHEADS is a multi-award winning physical theatre company specializing in mask performance and exquisite visual storytelling for adults and children.  The works are performed in full-face mask, a wordless form that mixes European larval mask traditions with character mask styles, resulting in a craft rarely seen on the stage today.

Even performance art and storytelling produces carbon emissions.  As a touring theatre company, WONDERHEADS recognizes the carbon footprint created by its activities, such as spending a lot of time on the road driving, flying back and forth across the country, staying in hotels, and eating out.  To mitigate the impact of the company’s carbon emissions, WONDERHEADS has joined the Carbonfree® Business Partnership and made a donation to support carbon emissions reduction, forest preservation and clean energy technology projects.

“We Wonderheads have been growing more and more concerned about our impact on the environment with all the miles we drive, flights we take, and hotels we stay in, and we feel that it is our responsibility to give back what we are taking,” explains Kate Braidwood, Co-Founder & Artistic Head of WONDERHEADS.  “We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by offsetting our CO2 emissions each year through Carbonfund.org.”

In addition to the partnership with Carbonfund.org, the company works to minimize its impact on the environment as much as possible while traveling via recycling, using reusable dishes and utensils, and conserving energy by reducing electricity use.  The team also uses recycled goods first when building and designing sets, props, costumes and masks.

Audiences have described the WONDERHEADS experience as watching a living cartoon – the whimsy and imagination of Pixar or Warner Bros in theatrical form. In this distinct style of storytelling, WONDERHEADS step beyond words and ignite the hearts and imaginations of audience members.  Now WONDERHEADS has taken steps to move beyond its continuing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by offsetting what remains.

Even organizations that actively seek to fund and support innovations in education and technology have a carbon footprint.  Those that maintain a strong commitment to environmentally responsible operations do something about it.

New Carbonfree® Business Partner, The Abe Farag Family Foundation (AFFF), is a great example.  In the process of carrying out the foundation’s work, the founding family has a carbon footprint associated with energy usage and travel.  Through the Carbonfree® Business Partnership program, The Abe Farag Family Foundation has offset the carbon dioxide emissions created by the founder’s family through support of Carbonfund.org’s clean energy and carbon emissions mitigation projects.

The Abe Farag Family Foundation’s mission is to encourage and fund innovative projects focused on education and technology.  The foundation seeks to improve the lives of people across the world by making financial awards that encourage innovation and creativity in the areas of education and technology.

AFFF provides assistance to jumpstart new ideas and solutions to help solve current problems by partnering with and supporting many creative individuals and non-profit education companies around the world.  Carbonfund.org is proud to start 2016 in partnership with a leader in funding innovation and maintaining environmentally sustainable operations.

Toronto-based Counting Opinions takes seriously its responsibilities to its customers and to its own operational sustainability.  Since 2011, the company has participated in the Carbonfree® Business Partnership program, neutralizing over 470,000 pounds of greenhouse gases by supporting clean air technology and carbon emissions reduction projects around the world.  These emissions reductions have the same environmental impact as avoiding the use of over 24,000 gallons of gasoline.

“We live in an ever-increasingly complex, global macrocosm. Evidence clearly indicates that humanity is negatively impacting global climate,” states Frank Biss, VP Sales and Operations at Counting Opinions.  “As such, each and every one of us has a responsibility to minimize our negative impacts and find ways to more effectively co-exist with nature. The consequences of not doing so are catastrophic. Carbonfund.org in our view exemplifies these most urgent efforts.”

Counting Opinions provides organizations in the libraries community with innovative, comprehensive, cost-effective ways to capture, manage and measure performance data, including open-ended customer feedback, qualitative and quantitative data, trends, benchmarks, outcomes and peer comparisons.  Its applications work across all browsers and platforms; are fully hosted in a secure professionally managed IT facility; and require minimal or no customer IT involvement.

Counting Opinions is a true "virtual" company - all staff members work from their respective homes, thus eliminating the carbon dioxide produced and time consumed by daily trips to and from the office.  The staff utilizes only electronic communications, minimizing the need for printed documents and conduct sales and support calls by either telephone or electronically, thereby minimizing the company’s "travel footprint."  Each year, Counting Opinions makes a donation to Carbonfund.org to neutralize remaining operational emissions that it cannot eliminate.  In our opinion, these actions count, and Counting Opinions is leading the performance data and customer feedback technology field with its continued commitment to sustainability.

It all started with a ball of yarn.  It inspired the founders of Jones & Vandermeer to undertake a year-long adventure to find beautiful, rare, and sustainably created yarns and fabrics, then make those products available to their customers.  They carry organic fabrics and have recently launched their own line of organic and fair trade cotton alpaca yarn infused with copper.

Jones and Vandermeer, the owners’ dogs, taught them that world is a beautiful place on which to tread lightly and try to leave it better than we found it. By sourcing products from around the globe and getting it to customers as quickly and conveniently as possible, packages must board trucks or planes in the process.

To reduce their carbon footprint, Jones & Vandermeer joined the Carbonfree® Business Partnership program and has renewed that commitment for the past five years.  In that time, Jones & Vandermeer has neutralized 395,000 pounds of greenhouse gases, the same quantity as released by combusting over 20,000 gallons of gasoline.

Jones & Vandermeer prints certain product tags and paper materials through a certified green printer, using 100% recycled paper and environmentally friendly soy-based inks. Products are wrapped in either 100% recycled tissue paper or reusable cotton bags, where possible. Jones & Vandermeer understands how to follow the thread of sustainability throughout its operations, and Carbonfund.org is proud to partner with them in these efforts.

A good wealth management firm helps its clients get their financial house in order - a great one makes sure its own house is in order, and is accountable to clients and to operational sustainability as well.  New Carbonfree® Business Partner Waymark Wealth Management, located in Westborough, MA, does just this.  The firm made the commitment to neutralize its estimated annual operating emissions by joining the Carbonfree® Business Partnership program earlier this year and supporting Carbonfund.org’s forest preservation projects around the world.

The values based independent wealth management firm helps individuals and families align their personal values with their investments and financial decisions.  The firm also works to minimize its carbon footprint as much as possible.  Co-Founder and Managing Partner Sean Fair participated in the NYC People’s Climate March in 2014 with many other investment companies to show the need for the investment community to take the lead on investing in a sustainable manner.  The staff strives to operate as paperless as possible, and use recycled and 100% wind powered generated paper products when required.  The company car is electric, and this year, the firm is starting an annual golf tournament to support the local land trust.

“We are all a part of a very delicate and often times misunderstood ecosystem,” expresses Sean Fair, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Waymark Wealth Management.  “Environmental and social stewardship must be a priority for everyone if this world is to become the place we all want for our children and future generations.  Simply shirking ownership or kicking the proverbial can down the road is no longer an option.  We want to help people understand that with every dollar you spend whether it is at the grocery store, buying clothes, the car you drive or money invested in the stock market, you are essentially giving those companies “votes of approval” for how they do business.”

“If we all want sustainability then we need to make sure that we are investing and spending our money with companies that are helping the world achieve that goal.  To that end, we are proud to partner with a great non-profit like Carbonfund.org to make sure our company is helping do its part.”

Kivuto Solutions Inc., global leader in complex digital distribution, is announcing its continued partnership with the Carbonfund.org Foundation for the fourth year in a row. The partnership signifies Kivuto’s commitment to reducing its impact on the environment through both its green distribution solutions and dedication to reducing its carbon footprint while offsetting the rest.

Kivuto has chosen to support Reforestation and Forest Preservation projects, which fight climate change by sequestering CO2 emissions from the atmosphere in trees and soil and improve local environmental quality.

For over 15 years, Kivuto has provided a green alternative for product distribution by eliminating the need to create and deliver boxed offers; providing an electronic distribution model that allows for effective and efficient delivery online. Studies have proven that using digital distribution solutions instead of traditional distribution methods can reduce carbon emissions by as much as 83 percent for a single product. Kivuto estimates that the approximately 30 million digital downloads Kivuto enabled for its customers over the past year reduced carbon emissions by approximately 42,000 metric tons.

This commitment goes beyond Kivuto’s green business model and carbon offsetting initiatives.   Kivuto’s employees continue to promote green alternatives on a daily basis and implementing company-wide initiatives for a more environmentally friendly workplace. Initiatives include recycling programs, campaigns to clean local communities, reducing waste at company lunches through reusable dishes and more.

Kivuto is looking forward to continuing its efforts to deliver green solutions, offset carbon emissions, take on new initiatives and become part of a greener community.

This year will mark Dolphin Blue’s 5th anniversary as a Carbonfree® Business Partner.  The staff at Dolphin Blue is proud and honored to continue offsetting operational emissions with Carbonfund.org and has decided to take it a step further by purchasing an additional 36 metric tonnes of carbon offsets to neutralize projected annual operating emissions.  Including these latest offsets purchased, Dolphin Blue has neutralized almost 718,000 pounds of greenhouse gases, equivalent to the carbon dioxide sequestered by planting 8350 tree seedlings and growing them for ten years.

Dolphin Blue has come a long way these past 5 years, by expanding their business offerings to include all-green, no harm products for household cleaning, lawn and garden care, pet care, children’s toys and body care that are produced with a minimal carbon emissions. Every product that Dolphin Blue carries is made from post-consumer recycled content, requiring less energy to produce, and is made in the USA, which means fewer emissions, compared to products made from virgin materials and imported from other countries.

Dolphin Blue supports initiatives that foster education and awareness in issues of sustainability, energy alternatives, organic agriculture and reducing waste.   Dolphin Blue wants everyone who visits their website to be educated on why they are purchasing these items and the difference buying one eco-friendly product can make.

Dolphin Blue also is honored to be associated with organizations such as B Corporation, Green Chamber of Commerce, EPA Green Power Partner, Chlorine Free Products Association, North Texas Clean Air Coalition, Green Source DFW, and the Voluntary Renewable Energy Coalition.

For over 20 years, Dolphin Blue has continued to conduct business always respecting the natural world in which we live, and they ask their customers and other businesses to do the same. That’s why Dolphin Blue is encouraging other B Corps to go above and beyond by offsetting their companies’ annual operational emissions and educating their customers on the importance of reducing their individual carbon footprint.
